I attended Retford Grammar School, Notts where I was keen on Architecture and Technical Drawing (probably the reason why I like to be precise with my work.) However, when my family moved south to live locally, I attended Poole Grammar School and Technical Drawing was not on the curriculum so end of story with that but I did leave with a GCE in Art.
I went into electrical engineering and subsequently had my own contracting business for many years. From a child and living in the countryside I was always keen on nature and after giving up outdoor sports I became an avid birdwatcher, becoming a member of Dorset Bird Club and serving on the committee of Poole RSPB members group for many years until it disbanded. I lost my excellent vision and developed a hearing deficiency at that time, so it was time for something new and I took a short drawing and painting course in Wimborne and subsequently joined our art club, which I enjoy very much – a very friendly club with help and advice from members offered and welcomed
